Sigma Delta Tau
From the Union directory, Sep 7, 2026
Founded nationally in 1917 and at Union College in 1977, Sigma Delta Tau is an organization of empowered women who continually work to empower women. This organization quickly becomes a second home to all of the women that receive a bid from SDT. Sigma Delta Tau provides its chapter and members an abundant amount of opportunities for friendship, leadership, and philanthropy. Being a member of this organization has enabled individuals to grow into strong women and genuinely understand the bond of sisterhood. Our chapter, Beta Xi has given all of us friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. The sisterhood of Sigma Delta Tau has empowered our members to radiate their unique energy and develop lifelong connections with their sisters. SDT allows our members to interconnect and explore the extensive opportunities that Union College has to offer both on and off campus. Whether it is sports games, art exhibits, philanthropic events, or community service projects, our sisters continue to support and encourage one another in these immersive experiences. We believe that this sisterhood creates a strong support system and a community where we can celebrate each other's successes. We value the ideals presented in Sigma Delta Tau’s mission statement, being that we “empower each member to reach her fullest potential by enriching the experience of women with similar ideals, building lasting relationships, promoting civic responsibility and fostering personal growth.” There are not enough words to describe the amount of love and support that our chapter has gained since joining Sigma Delta Tau’s Beta Xi chapter!Since our founding in 1917, the sister’s of Sigma Delta Tau have made tremendous efforts to not only empower women but help those around us. Through the hosting of annual philanthropic events, we as an organization are able to raise awareness and money for our national philanthropies; Prevent Child Abuse America, Jewish Women International and The Sigma Delta Tau Foundation. With such activism, we are able to provide children and women with fundamental rights to live in safe homes, achieve a well-rounded education and form healthy relationships.
