The Student Dietetic Association is an affiliate association of the Birmingham District Dietetic Association, the Alabama Dietetic Association, and The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The Student Dietetic Association (SDA) is a student-led organization. All Nutrition/Dietetics majors, Foods/Nutrition majors, and Nutrition minors at Samford are welcome to join the Samford SDA. SDA helps keep majors informed about nutrition issues at the local, state, and national level. SDA helps students prepare to apply for dietetic internships through informative meetings and special projects in the community associated with the Birmingham District Dietetic Association. The SDA provides important opportunities for students to meet and network with dietetic professionals as they progress throughout their undergraduate education. Examples of past involvement include the farmers market, bake sales, and hosting invited speakers to inform students about the field of nutrition. Ms. Clara Darling MS, RDN, LD is the faculty advisor. The Samford SDA received the award as the Outstanding Student Dietetic Association within the state of Alabama in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2025 by the Alabama Dietetic Association.
