Samford Loves Birmingham is a student-led organization dedicated to demonstrating Christ-centered service throughout the Birmingham community. Our purpose is to identify local needs and meet them through consistent, compassionate service while cultivating a community of students committed to ongoing acts of love, prayer, and encouragement.The organization provides monthly service projects that address environmental, educational, and compassion-based needs in the city of Birmingham. These projects include activities such as neighborhood cleanups, tutoring, shelter support, and outreach to first responders. In addition to monthly initiatives, Samford Loves Birmingham offers continuous outreach opportunities through homeless blessing bags, prayer cards, and relationship-building conversations.The organization also supports student spiritual growth through weekly encouragement gatherings and small groups designed to create community and strengthen faith. By partnering with local churches, campus ministries, and Samford departments, Samford Loves Birmingham works to expand its impact and promote a culture of servant leadership among students.Membership is open to all Samford undergraduate and graduate students who support the mission of the organization. Together, we aim to be God-centered and people-focused as we serve Birmingham with compassion, purpose, and dedication.Salt and Light is proud to partner with the Office of Community Engagement as we work to live out a shared commitment to service, civic responsibility, and meaningful community impact. Our organization aligns with the Office of Community Engagement’s mission to foster reciprocal relationships with local and global communities, emphasizing collaboration, respect, and sustainable engagement. Through this connection, our members are encouraged to serve with intentionality, humility, and a deep understanding of community-identified needs. The Office of Community Engagement provides guidance, resources, and accountability that strengthen our efforts and ensure our initiatives reflect ethical service practices and Samford University’s values.By working closely with the Office of Community Engagement, Salta and Light seeks to honor their mission while empowering students to become engaged citizens who lead with compassion, integrity, and purpose, both on campus and beyond.
