Psi Iota Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha (PSA), the National Political Science Honor Society
From the Samford directory, Sep 7, 2026
Pi Sigma Alpha's mission is to recognize academic excellence by, and provide leadership opportunities for, undergraduate (and graduate students) in political science and related fields; to stimulate scholarship and interest in politics, government, and democracy; to encourage diversity, equity, and inclusion in the discipline; and to support curricular and extracurricular activities that promote dialogue and civic engagement. The Psi Iota chapter was re-established at Samford University in 2023. After a year focused on rebuilding our membership, we have focused on creating two impactful events:The Distinguished Speaker Series brings respected public leaders to campus for thoughtful, nonpartisan conversations about politics, leadership, and civic life. Designed especially for Samford students, the series provides an opportunity to hear directly from individuals who are actively shaping public policy and community life, and to engage with the ideas, challenges, and responsibilities that come with public leadership. The Policy Pitch Competition invites Samford undergraduate students to develop and present innovative, evidence-based policy proposals that address pressing public issues. Competitors will identify a policy area, define a clear problem, and propose a politically feasible solution supported by strong evidence and analysis.
