Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is an organization of college educated women committed to the constructive development of its members and to public service with a primary focus on the Black community. Founded on January 13, 1913, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a private, not-for-profit organization whose main goal is to serve communities around the world through the development of programs. The organization is able to provide an array of public service initiatives through its Five-Point Programmatic Thrusts, which include Educational Awareness, Economic Awareness, Political Awareness and Involvement, International Awareness and Involvement, and Physical and Mental Health. From its very founding, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated has promoted academic excellence while simultaneously aiding those in need and what started as the hard work and determination of 22 Howard University collegiate women has blossomed into an organization of more than 350,000 dedicated women worldwide. The members of the Sigma Eta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated are honored to be a part of such a dynamic sisterhood!On March 18, 1995, the Sigma Eta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was chartered. Under the permission and guidance of Regional Director Lois Gilder and the Jefferson County Alumnae Chapter, eleven Samford women were initiated on the campus of Samford University. As of fall 2019, The Sigma Eta chapter has initiated sixty-six women through thirteen membership intake processes. The chapter works hard to promote change using each of the Five Point Programmatic Thrusts while providing public service to the community. Sigma Eta’s longest lasting and most impactful project has been the Tiffany Nicole Conoway Minority Scholarship. The scholarship was created in memory of charter member Tiffany Nicole Conaway who passed away before the initiation but was initiated posthumously. In her honor, the Tiffany Nicole Conaway Minority Scholarship was established. Currently, the Sigma Eta Chapter hosts events such as Go Red for Women (National Wear Red Day and Pie for Hearts), Support Our Troops, Career Development Workshop, and Dance Away Diabetes.
