Gold 'n Blues (GNB)

The Gold ‘n Blues, commonly known as GnB, began with nine students and a small keyboard in the basement of McCormick in early 2008. Hilary Braseth and Katie Blazek came to Marquette their freshman year and were disappointed at the lack of a cappella singing opportunities on campus, because the only group on campus was The Naturals, Marquette's all-male a cappella group. Katie and Hilary decided to pass out quarter-sheets at an MU Chorus rehearsal to gauge interest, and found seven other interested students. From there, the rest is history!The Gold 'n Blues became Marquette’s first recognized and OSD-approved coed a cappella group in the spring of 2008, and held auditions the following year. Since then, GnB has blossomed into a 18-member group and has exploded in recognition on campus and city-wide. From singing at the "Best of the Midwest" a cappella concert at Northwestern University, to the National Anthem at a Miami Heat v. Bucks game, GnB has come a long way from open mic nights at the Brew. In 2022, GnB made group history by competing in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) for the first time and received third place at the Great Lakes Quarterfinal. The group also received 2 out of 4 special awards for "Outstanding Soloist" (Lourdes Galido) and "Outstanding Vocal Percussion" (Carson Scarnegie). They will be competing at ICCAs again in Spring 2026 and are very excited! Gold 'n Blues is committed to spreading their love for music around Marquette’s campus and the Milwaukee area. Now in its 18th year, GnB continues to arrange their own music and has recorded four studio albums.
