Teaching Talk: Introduction to Service Learning Multiple Locations and Virtual Option Interested in incorporating community engagement into your course but not sure where to begin? Join Aerianna McClanahan (WVU Center for Community Engagement) for an introduction to service-learning at WVU and learn how to design meaningful community-engaged experiences that support student learning and community impact. This session will explore what service-learning is, how it differs from other forms of experiential learning, and the many ways it can be implemented across disciplines, class sizes, course formats, and student populations. Participants will see examples of successful projects from across the University and discuss best practices for both course and partnership design. The session will also cover strategies for aligning projects with course outcomes while navigating common logistical considerations such as transportation, online learners, group work, and project scope. Faculty will also receive an overview of the support available through the WVU Center for Community Engagement, including assistance with community partner matching, course design, student resources, iServe, assessment, and the Service-Learning S-Designation process. Whether you're exploring your first community-engaged learning experience or refining an existing service-learning course, you'll leave with practical next steps and resources to help bring your vision to life.
