Case Studies in Mentoring is discussion-based and designed to help mentees and mentors navigate their mentoring relationships. The sessions are participatory with a facilitated discussion about mentoring topics and case studies. The topics are aligned with common themes that emerge in any mentoring relationship. We provide case studies and resources for participants to review outside of the course, with the 1-hour virtual weekly meeting serving as a forum to discuss mentoring topics, emerging issues, and case studies of interest to participants within that theme. Discussions include all participants, whether they are new to the mentoring process or experienced mentors. This inclusive format allows individuals at any level to participate and learn. Sessions are not recorded to allow a free discussion. WHAT: A series of eight presentations on topics related to the nuances of the mentor-mentee relationship. WHERE: Online via Zoom WHEN: Tuesdays, 11am-12pm, September 8-November 3, 2026 WHO: Open to investigators at any level from across the CCTS Partner Network, from pre-doctoral students to seasoned faculty members who mentor developing research scientists. WHY: Investigators will discover new strategies in mentoring and be better prepared to handle mentoring challenges that may arise in their laboratories. CERTIFICATION: Participants who complete seven of the eight topics in this series will receive a certificate of completion suitable for departmental review and academic promotion. If participants are unable to attend all of the sessions required at one time, please return and complete the session(s) you missed to receive a certificate upon completion. Partial attendance at a session will not count towards a certificate. REGISTRATION: Pre-registration is requested so that participants have access to prepratory materials, but day-of participation is welcome.
