What separates a good performer from a great one? More often than not, the answer is not talent — it is mindset. The CAM Peak Performance Workshop Series brings leading experts in performance psychology and the performing arts to Sam Houston State University for four Monday evening sessions this fall, giving performing arts students the mental tools, physical strategies, and peer community they need to thrive — on stage, in the studio, and beyond. Developed through the CAM Creative Leaders Fellowship, the series features three nationally recognized guest presenters whose work spans clinical sport psychology, performance, and the performing arts. Our guest speakers have worked with professional ballet companies, musicians, Olympic athletes, opera singers, and collegiate performers at the highest level. Each session is designed to be immediately practical, giving students tools they can apply to their own creative practice from the very first evening. Session #3 The Artist as Character, presented by Christopher Wagner, cellist, and peak performance coach at the University of New Mexico. Christoph Wagner is Assistant Professor of Cello and Head of Strings at the University of New Mexico. A prize-winning cellist and researcher, he holds degrees from the University of Music in Frankfurt, Indiana University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, where he also conducted research on injury prevention in orchestral musicians as a fellow at Houston Methodist Research Institute. His work bridges performance and pedagogy, focused on building resilient, sustainable practice habits in developing musicians. Sessions are free and open to the public. No registration required!
