Workshop: Decision-Support and Prioritization Frameworks for River Restoration and Barrier Removal

As part of Oregon State University Extension Service and Oregon Sea Grant's professional development offerings, Dr. Guillermo Giannico is pleased to host Professor Jesse O'Hanley for a specialized training workshop on prioritizing fish-passage barrier mitigation and river restoration investments. The workshop is intended for fisheries professionals, watershed councils, consulting firms, Tribal staff, government agencies, NGOs, graduate students, and restoration practitioners throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond. This workshop introduces participants to concepts and methods used to evaluate and prioritize fish passage improvement opportunities. Attendees will learn about aquatic connectivity, fish passage barriers, and a range of approaches for identifying restoration priorities. The workshop will also include an overview of decision-support tools and analytical methods used to assess habitat access, compare restoration scenarios, and support planning efforts. Through demonstrations, interactive activities, and hands-on exercises using real-world examples, participants will gain practical experience interpreting results and applying them to fish passage and watershed restoration decision-making.
