My Personal Experience as a DeafBlind Individual

Please join NC State University Libraries for a lecture by deafblind scholar and educator Victorica “Dr. V” Monroe. The lecture will examine the educational experiences of deafblind, deaf and hard of hearing individuals and communities, audism, language access and language acquisition. Drawing on their professional and academic experience, Monroe will discuss these topics and their connections to education, communication, language and the experiences of deafblind people. The lecture will be followed by a screening of Signing Black in America, a documentary exploring the history and development of Black American Sign Language (BASL) and the linguistic and cultural experiences reflected in its use. Together, the lecture and screening provide an opportunity for students, faculty, staff and community members to learn about deaf experiences, language communication access and the historical and cultural development of BASL.
