Make clay beads honoring each living wild bison in North America with artist Cannupa Hanska Luger for Census - Bison Bead Project. As part of the For Freedoms residency with the National Gallery of Art and the Corcoran School of the Arts & Design, visiting artist Cannupa Hanska Luger invites the D.C. community to make beads representing over 500,000 living bison in the form of 36 life-size sculptures. The Bison Bead Project stems from Luger’s Counting Coup social engagement series, which engages collective making to build large-scale collaborations that lend humanity to abstract data and connect us in the process. Corcoran students are hosting bead making workshops to help contribute to this massive project.
