PT students only. - Health promotion is the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve their health. Physical therapists can intervene at various points in the life course by incorporating prevention, health promotion and wellness as an integral aspect of physical therapist practice, as well as in promoting and advocating for healthy lifestyles to reduce the burden of disease and disability on individuals and society. This course will provide physical therapy students an appreciation of health and the determinants of health at multiple levels in order to gain knowledge and skills necessary to work effectively to improve the health of individuals, communities, and populations. Students will learn how to assess the needs of a community and develop and implement a health promotion and wellness intervention that is theoretically informed, and evidence based. They will explore the socio-cultural, economic and political contexts in which people live their lives and how these, and local and large-scale forces (inequity, marginalization and various forms of discrimination) impact health and developmentSAR PT 610unlocks 0 courses
