MICHAEL CASSIDY, Professor of Law, Boston College A former prosecutor and expert in prosecutorial ethics, Professor Cassidy will explain the nature and limitations of the Commonwealth's laws and practices at the border of criminality and mental illness. ROBIN DARLING YOUNG, Professor Emerita of Church History, Catholic University of America A historian of Christianity, Professor Young will discuss the changing relationship of evil and sickness in Western Christian cultures, as it moved from an account of demons to an account of mental illness. MEG KAVENY, LCSW, Portland, Oregon Meg Kaveny works with the Portland Police Bureau’s Behavioral Health Response Team, which pairs police officers with master’s-level clinicians such as herself. Ms. Kaveny will discuss the challenges for law enforcement in responding to persons with mental illness.
