Certificate in College Teaching: Learning Through Laughter: Research-Backed Strategies for Classroom Engagement

Can strategic use of humor improve student learning outcomes? This interactive workshop explores research on how well-timed humor enhances memory, reduces anxiety, and fosters a sense of classroom community. You'll gain a practical framework for understanding the ethics of humor in teaching across academic disciplines. We'll examine real classroom scenarios, discuss the philosophy and psychology behind what makes something funny (and appropriate), and practice techniques that work whether you consider yourself naturally humorous or not. This is one of the elective workshops for the Certificate in College Teaching (CCT) Program. Those who miss more than ten minutes of a session will not receive CCT Program credit for that workshop.
